The Two Platters

“Did you ever stop to taste a carrot?  Not just eat it, but taste it?  You can’t taste the beauty and energy of the earth in a Twinkie.”

I am not a personal chef, so I am not always going to please everyone sitting around my dinner table. These platters are always on the table, they supplement the dinner nicely and gives everyone choices.

This sounds like a lot of work right? It's really pretty simple, because there is no need to cut and prep each platter every night. Simply chop your fruit and veggies for the week then store them in the fridge. Presto...dinner became a bit easier.

Serving these two platters every night accomplishes a couple of things. It is predictable, everyone can count on the platters to be there. If someone doesn't care for dinner's main attraction, they can fill up on the bounty of the platters. Also, fruit and vegetables are well underplayed and this gives family members opportunity to eat more fresh foods.

The Fruit Platter

Assemble your platter full of fresh seasonal fruit. Fruit also makes a prefect dessert; naturally sweet and delicious. Often I'll serve a small platter of different types of cheese with the fruit. Sometimes, I find myself being really creative with the fruit… fruit skewers or using a cookie cutter to make fun shapes.

The Vegetable Platter
Arrange your seasonal fresh veggies on the platter, serve as many different types as you like. Sometimes I just serve carrot sticks with a side serving of hummus. Regardless of what vegetables I am presenting, I always have something healthy to dip them in.

Get your little ones involved and create fun a platter together. Little tykes are more prone to eat something, if they helped with the creation. When I used to babysit my  2 year old nice, I would slice up bananas and she would put raisins on the slices to make a face. She loved it. It was simple, fun and didn't require a lot of prep work.

Have fun with the platters and get your family involved.
