Zen Garden Tranquility

Zen gardens have become increasingly popular due to the high stress level of today's society. But what exactly is a Zen Garden and what does it symbolize?

The garden is regarded as a place for peace and tranquility. They are created to represent different soothing elements found in our environment. The delicate designs raked into the sand represents rippling water, whereas the rocks symbolize many different things depending upon the shape or color. A horizontal rock can represent the earth while a vertical rock can symbolize the sky. If your garden represents a certain place, the rocks can symbolize islands or mountains.

If you don't have the space to create an outdoor Zen Garden, there are many options for tabletop gardens. You can buy premade kits, or you can create your own garden.

To create your own mini Zen garden you will need:

 A container

 Sand

 Pebbles

 Air Plant

 Rake

The idea is to use items of importance to you. You can incorporate seashells for instance. Have fun with creating your own mini Zen Garden and giving it your personal touch and style.

I am in the process of creating my own table top Zen garden. I found some amazing bowls at Sunset Turnings. I'll use sand from a California beach my mom sent me, pebbles from Lake Michigan, an air plant from Peacocktaco and a darling rake I found at Mudmom.

Once you have completed your garden, you are ready to start raking sand designs, letting your worries wash away with the tide.
